The main purpose of the sandhills or sand dunes is to protect the inland areas from further erosion. Even small sand dunes serve as a barrier for wind and water and prevent them from reaching inland areas to erode the soil. Sand dunes also serve as a habitat to many plants and animals. The grasses that are sometimes found in coastal sand dunes not only keep the dune from eroding, but receive nourishment and protection from the dune in return. Many small animals like crabs find their homes in sand dunes because it serves as a protection from the wind and water more so than digging a hole in the beach.

Sandhills on sand dunes are found in many shapes and sizes; some in coastal regions, some inland. One of the tallest dunes in the world is found in the Namib desert, created by thousands of years of wind carrying sand from the coast. One of the most well known dune fields or ergs in North America is Jockey’s Ridge National Park on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The dunes are roughly 100 feet high in some areas and that doesn’t even come close to the highest sand dunes in the world. Jockey’s Ridge contains the largest active dune system in the United States making it a tourist destination in it’s own right.

There are many different types of dunes and they differ both in the local material that they are made of and the shape that they form thanks to natural erosion from wind and water. Sandhills are continually changing and serve as a protection for both the inland and the animals that live in and around the dunes.

Alas, that glimmer of hope that some really great artist would be featured in a Super Bowl halftime soon to come is kind of coming true!  LMFAO is confirmed to be a part of this year’s Super Bowl halftime show.  Madonna will be headlining, but I am more excited about LMFAO, Nicki Minaj, and M.I.A.’s contributions than I am seeing a 53 year old with strange muscles grinding on stage.

I know, I know, Madonna is a legend, or whatever.  Well, yes, she is a legend because she is way too old to still be acting like she did in the eighties, yet people still dig it.  I do not understand the obsession.

But I am incredibly pumped over the fact that there are actually going to be some artists closer to my age this year that will surely put on a good show.  And if the show is not a good one, I will definitely eat my words and be very disappointed.

I am just so glad to see that we can move past the Janet/Justin controversy like eight years later and have some decently popular acts that are famous right now during the Super Bowl halftime show.

On another note, what are your plans for the big game?  I have a pretty awesome party each year filled with horribly bad for you yet tasty snacks.  I guess I am pretty excited about that.  There is nothing better than stuffing your face all for the love of football!

Break Ups

• Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore – For years it seemed that yes, these two could look past the large age difference and have a marriage that they would cherish.  Things feel apart though on the night that was their six year wedding anniversary when Kutcher allegedly had sex with another woman.  For weeks we watched in anticipation to see what would happen with the two and in November Demi announced the divorce.
• Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries – Whether or not you thought this marriage would stick it out, I’m not sure anyone saw it ending in just 72 short days.  Kim reportedly got caught up in the “hoopla” and went through with the marriage when she admits she should have called it off.
• Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony – After seven years of marriage and three year old twins, the two Latino lovers decided to divorce.  Rumor has it that Anthony was very controlling.   All we really know now is that Jenny has still got it because she has been seen with a dancer almost half her age.

Hook Ups

• Wilmer Valderrama and Demi Lovato – He might be twelve years older than Lovato, but Valderrama had no problem getting back together with the actress turned singer after she got out of rehab.
• Sara Gilbert and Linda Perry – After a decade and two children with Alison Adler, Sara Gilbert and Adler called it quits.  Just three months later Gilbert confirmed that she was dating the songwriter Linda Perry.
• Carrie Mulligan and Marcus Mumford – If you are looking for a sweet story, this one is it.  These two were actually pen pals as children.  They met at a party, reconnected, and after just five months the two got engaged.

There were some things that went on in 2011 that we cannot explain.  For example, Charlie Sheen went even more nuts and showed us his goddesses who were so in love with him.  Just a short time later his goddesses decided they were done with Sheen.  Then there was the marriage of 51 year old Doug Hutchinson to the supposedly 16 year old Courtney Stodden.  Ew.

Powerhouse singer and occasional actress Christina Aguilera started out as a part of Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club.  Today she boasts a couple of Grammys and judges on the reality television show “The Voice.”

Another singer and actor made appearances around the same time as Ms. Aguilera on the Mickey Mouse Club.  Justin Timberlake was one of the members of the band ‘NSYNC before he set out to a very successful solo career and acting career.  He also has his own golf course.

Fergalicious Fergie, Stacy Ferguson, was a Mickey Mouse member before she was “so delicious.”

Time’s coolest man of the year and runner up for People’s sexiest man of the year, Ryan Gosling donned Mickey Mouse ears as a kid.

It is fairly well-known that Britney Spears got her start on the Disney Channel.  The singer and performer’s little sister even had her own Disney show at one time.

Shia LeBouf got his acting start on the Disney Channel show “Even Stevens” playing an annoying little brother.

Before Hilary Duff was writing books and creating her own brand, she was Lizzie McGuire on Disney’s “Lizzie McGuire.”

Lindsey Lohan, the Jonas Brothers, Raven Simone, Zac Efron, and Ashley Tisdale all got their start thanks to Disney too.  And we are thankful that Disney gave them their big break just as much as they probably are!

Halloween movies are enough to give you the fright you might be seeking, and you can watch them from the comfort of your own house.  So if you do happen to pee your pants from terror, you are not out in public.  You can simply hop up and go change.  If you would rather hang at home and catch some scary flicks, then take a look at the highest grossing Halloween movies since the 1970s.  Since they did so good in the box office, they’ve got to be good, right?  Take a look and see what you should watch this Halloween.

And it was!  Brian Bradly is sure to be one of America’s brightest young stars, thanks to his clever segue into an act that blew us all away.  He had so much energy I thought he’d gulped a few bottles of Red Bull or maybe pumped up with a P90X workout. Christina Hendricks – Two words come to my mind when I see this Johanna Johnson dress, “pure glamour.”  I love it.  I love the crystals, I love the cut, I love her curves!  To me she is the winner of the best dressed overall.  She looks classically beautiful.

Kate Winslet – First of all let me say that I love when women embrace their curves.  Winslet is doing just that in this Elis Saab number that looks not only effortless but classy.  Red is definitely her color.

Emily Blunt – Be still my heart.  It’s another hit from Elie Saab.  Blunt looks dazzling in this plunge neck dress.  It is so feminine and delicate all while being fierce.  I like too that she kept the accessories to a minimum.

Sofia Vergara – red seemed to be a hot color choice of the night, but Vergara lightened things up a bit in this incredible coral dress by Vera Wang.  I am a little bit let down by her hair, but she still looks stunning.

Jennifer Carpenter – I haven’t been able to find who made the silver and sparkling dress worn by Carpenter last night, but I am in love with this dress.  It is romantic and just plain pretty.  What girl wouldn’t love a dress that sparkles anyway?
